Latest Announcement from Principal Harris

Dear Apollo Families,

The Apollo Playground construction continues and experienced some delays with the rainy weather recently. To date the play equipment is in and the rubberized tile matting is being installed. We are getting very close. Our plan is to provide students, prior to opening, with a video of how to safely use the equipment and expectations of sharing and caring for our new equipment. May 20th during the Multicultural Night and Spring Fling festivities, we are planning for a ribbon cutting ceremony to “officially” open the new play structures!

The Spring Book Fair will be in person and held May 16-20. Classes will be scheduled to go through the book fair and purchase items one time during the week. This is to keep the numbers of students limited to a class size for continued mitigation safety. Please check your teacher’s newsletter for the date your student’s class will be at the book fair and that will be the opportunity, during the school day, you’re your student to purchase book(s). The book fair will be open on the evening of May 20, as well as an additional date TBD during the Book Fair Week.

For our intermediate grade level students, the Smarter Balance Testing begins and runs through the May. Each grade level is scheduled of a specific week for students to demonstrate their understanding of Math, ELA, and Science (5th grade only). Please see more information, from Stephanie Wallace, about SBA testing within this week’s E-news.

Apollo’s PTA surprised the following Apollo staff members with Outstanding Educator Awards from community input:

  • Shirin Kazemi – Kindergarten
  • Sydney Hall – Counselor
  • Susana Santiago- Lead Custodian
  • Kaitlin Johnson – Special Education LRCII

The students have done really well as they complete the i-Ready assessments #3 and I’m so proud of their positive mindsets; it truly shows in their learning!

Next week, May 2-6, is Staff Appreciation Week and I want to say “thank you” in advance for supporting the staff Apollo!

Stay happy and healthy!
