Message from the Principal - May 25th
Dear Apollo Families,
This week’s Principal’s Report was delivered at the May 24th Apollo PTA General Meeting. I know parents are busy people so I hope you find the information below helpful if you could not attend the meeting.
Apollo 3-5th graders are in the final stages of SBA testing as well as completing the spring iReady Assessment for Reading. Our School Improvement Plan (SIP) focuses in the area of Reading improvement, through deep development of phonological awareness, vocabulary building to increase comprehension in both fiction and non-fiction reading. Apollo’s use of implicit and direct instruction in the academic domains mentioned is helping students to make great growth across the board.
Also in the School Improvement Plan, Apollo’s staff has an intentional goal of growing their understanding of Trauma Informed Practices to increase our success with reaching all students regardless of visible or non-visible barriers. We see evidence of growth in the students throughout many facets of their day at Apollo and this time of year can be a bit bittersweet as we are beginning to wrap up another year and get ready to say goodbye to those 5th graders but excited to meet our incoming Kinders… the class of 2036!
Thank you to Issaquah Schools Foundation for supporting Apollo’s six week, two times a week one-hour sessions for Math improvement for selected 4 and 5th graders who were needing targeted instruction in mathematical domains to help get them closer to grade level.
This month Apollo’s choir, after only six practice sessions, performed at the Music Alive concert hosted by Liberty HS with all the South Region schools and they did a great job! Multi-Cultural Night and Talent Show saw lots of families in attendance and lots of talent as well as lots of work goes into these events, so a big thank you to the volunteers!
End of Year and looking forward to 2023 -2024…
June 19th, we recognize Juneteenth and school is not in session. June 20th is the final day of school. The 5th grade promotion ceremony is June 20th 9:45am-11:00am and June 20th bell schedule is 9:15 am -11:30 am. Lunch is not served on the last day of school, June 20th.
Grade level teams have been working on Class Placement for students as they move up for next fall. Families you are reminded to complete the districts EVP *(Enrollment Verification Process) to guarantee your student has a seat in the fall. Look for reminders on the district website in Early August of when and how to complete your student’s EVP!
