Social Emotional Learning Through Books
Stories are a great way to approach social emotional learning with young kids! There are so many books that can be accessed through Amazon, Epic, or YouTube that address emotions, problem solving, friendships and much more. See the links below for some read alouds to listen to at home.

Having conversations about World News
Whether our students have a full understanding of it or not, significant world news can have an impact. With the recent news between Russia and Ukraine, some of our students may have feelings or questions about it. At Apollo, we are here to support students and families. Our hearts go out to our Ukrainian and Russian families during this time. Below are some resources that can help you have conversations with your kids during these and other world events.

CharacterStrong's PurposeFull People
We are excited to announce that we have received a grant from the Issaquah Schools Foundation to bring CharacterStrong' s PurposeFull People toolkit to Apollo. This toolkit will be another way we teach and approach social emotional learning and development.
What: PurposeFull People is a social emotional learning and character development toolkit. The toolkit includes activities, community building games, book recommendations, songs, and videos that address various character traits.
When: This Spring we plan to roll out the toolkit, model it for teachers and introduce it to students! In the Fall our hope is that the toolkit and its character traits will become part of Apollo's regular social emotional learning.
Why: In teaching social emotional skills, like emotional regulation and problem solving, we were seeing a gap in students learning about their character. Building character traits, like honesty, respect, and creativity can have a huge positive impact on learning and practicing social emotional skills.
How: The toolkit is designed to be used in many different ways (either weekly or daily). Apollo will be using the toolkit alongside our current Second Step curriculum to create a strong culture of social emotional learning in our building!

CharacterStrong's PurposeFull People
Nos complace anunciar que hemos recibido una subvención de la Fundación de Escuelas Issaquah para llevar el kit de herramientas PurposeFull People de CharacterStrong a Apollo. Este kit de herramientas será otra forma en que enseñamos y abordamos el aprendizaje y el desarrollo socioemocional.
Qué: PurposeFull People es un kit de herramientas de aprendizaje socioemocional y desarrollo del carácter. El kit de herramientas incluye actividades, juegos de construcción de comunidades, recomendaciones de libros, canciones y videos que abordan varios rasgos de carácter.
Cuándo: ¡Esta primavera planeamos lanzar el kit de herramientas, modelarlo para los maestros y presentarlo a los estudiantes! En el otoño, nuestra esperanza es que el conjunto de herramientas y sus rasgos de carácter se conviertan en parte del aprendizaje socioemocional regular de Apolo.
Por qué: Al enseñar habilidades socioemocionales, como la regulación emocional y la resolución de problemas, estábamos viendo una brecha en los estudiantes que aprenden sobre su carácter.
Desarrollar rasgos de carácter, como la honestidad, el respeto y la creatividad puede tener un gran impacto positivo en el aprendizaje y la práctica de habilidades socioemocionales.
Cómo: El kit de herramientas está diseñado para ser utilizado de muchas maneras diferentes (ya sea semanal o diariamente). ¡Apollo utilizará el kit de herramientas junto con nuestro plan de estudios actual del Segundo Paso para crear una fuerte cultura de aprendizaje socioemocional en nuestro edificio!
